About Trinity School
Trinity School is a leading independent day school in Shirley Park, Croydon, part of the John Whitgift Foundation (established 1596); the school itself began as Whitgift Middle School in 1882 and was renamed Trinity in 1954. It has around 1,000 pupils and, unusually, starts at Year 6 (age 10). As an independent school it charges fees — £26,949 a year (2025/26).
Historically a boys' school with a co-educational sixth form, Trinity is becoming fully co-educational: the first girls join Years 6 and 7 in September 2027. Entry at 11+ is by the school's own assessment — an entrance examination, an interview and a reference from the current school.
Year 7 Admissions Guide for Trinity School
Trinity runs its own 11+ admissions. Register online directly with the school in the autumn of Year 6 (a £200 registration fee applies). Your child sits an entrance examination with sections in English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning, and shortlisted candidates attend an interview; a reference from the current school is also required. From September 2027 Trinity admits girls as well as boys at Years 6 and 7 for the first time. Around 80 pupils enter at 11+, and the final decision rests with the headmaster.
