About Shropshire, Walsall and Wolverhampton Grammar Schools
The Shropshire, Walsall and Wolverhampton Consortium has five grammar schools: Haberdashers’ Adams and Newport Girls’ High (both in Newport), Queen Mary’s Grammar School and Queen Mary’s High School (both in Walsall), and Wolverhampton Girls’ High School. They all use the single West Midlands Grammar Schools’ Entrance Test.
That test is shared across all 19 grammar schools in the West Midlands. You register once at westmidlandsgrammarschools.co.uk and can consent to share your result with the Birmingham and Warwickshire schools too.
For September 2027 entry, registration runs 6 May–26 June 2026 and the test is on Saturday 12 September 2026; results follow in October. Each school follows its own local authority’s admissions scheme — Telford & Wrekin for the Newport schools, Walsall for the Queen Mary’s schools and Wolverhampton for Wolverhampton Girls’ — so list schools on the relevant Common Application Form by 31 October, with offers on National Offer Day (1 March).

About the West Midlands 11+
The West Midlands Grammar Schools’ Entrance Test is the single 11+ used by all 19 grammar schools across the region, including these five. It is provided by GL Assessment.
Format: two multiple-choice papers (around 50–60 minutes each) covering English comprehension, mathematics, verbal reasoning and non-verbal/spatial reasoning, recorded on a multiple-choice answer sheet. There are no writing sections, and scores are age-standardised.
Your child sits the test once, on Saturday 12 September 2026 for 2027 entry. Results are released in October; each school then applies its own qualifying threshold and oversubscription criteria.
